Applicability
This article applies to any University of Alberta faculty, staff, student, or guest who needs to connect to the eduroam wireless network to access University of Alberta resources or basic Internet access on Ubuntu Linux.
Please be aware that if you have a University of Alberta Campus Computing ID (CCID), you will not be able to connect to eduroam while physically located at a University of Alberta campus. Due to the roaming nature of eduroam, for your CCID to connect, you need to physically be at a non-U of A educational institution that also hosts eduroam.
Procedure
If at any time you have difficulty or encounter problems with this process, please call the Staff Service Centre for IT support at 780-492-8000 Ext. 1. Between the hours of 7:30 AM to 6:00 PM Monday to Friday.
Manually configuring eduroam
1. Click the wireless connection icon on the menu bar at the top right-hand corner, near the clock. If eduroam is available, select it from the list of networks.
2. You will be prompted for authentication to connect to the network. Set the "Authentication" to "Protected EAP (PEAP)" (Leave the other settings as-is).
Enter your ID from your home institution in the form of @institution name as it would appear in an e-mail address, for example. Use the password you typically use to gain access to your home institution's network.
(If you have a University of Alberta CCID, you would use your @ualberta.ca e-mail address, and your CCID password to authenticate on eduroam.)
Click Connect.
3. If you see a warning that no certificate has been chosen, click the checkbox that reads "Don't warn me again", and click Ignore.
4. After a moment, eduroam will connect.
