IST Digital Learning Environment (Canvas, WooClap and formerly eClass)
Introduction
This article describes the services provided by the eClass team within the IST Digital Learning Environment portfolio, how users can get information about using these tools, and how to get support for them.
Applicability
This information will be useful to anyone within the U of A community who wishes to use any of the eClass team's centrally-supported services, primarily course instructors. The help materials are publicly accessible.
Information
Canvas
The University of Alberta's centrally supported learning management system (LMS) used by instructors to share content with students in their courses, deliver interactive activities and assess learning. Canvas is available from the U of A main page in the top horizontal quick links bar or directly at https://eclass.srv.ualberta.ca/portal/. Self-service support for Canvas is available through the searchable knowledge base. Specific topic links include:
Synchronous Learning Tools
The main tool instructors can use to deliver online lectures in their courses is Zoom.
Wooclap
Wooclap has been selected as the University of Alberta's centrally supported student response system. Wooclap is an online polling application that can be used through Canvas to interact with learners during and after lectures.
eClass
eClass was the University of Alberta's centrally supported learning management system (LMS). Please be advised that the content of the article below may only be relevant for users concluding the final stages of coursework on eClass or for users on the eClass External system. The eClass Learning Management System is currently in a read-only state that prohibits new courses, enrollments, and users from being added to the site. Credit courses and co-curricular courses at the UofA are now being delivered on Canvas, and full articles on how to use Canvas can be found here.
